We all know what is Minecraft.  A computer game program that allows you to dig for materials, build tools with materials, and build anything you like in the game.  The graphics is a sort of 8-bits graphics.  Kind of sucks.

So, you can play individually.  Or you can have a Networked playing with friends.  Jay & Kay and their Friday playdates have been playing Minecraft (Networked) for many many months now.  It is time to check out what they have done and build.

I asked Ash to show me what she and the kids have build.  And I am totally impressed with it.  The detailed level of their “skyscraper” home is indeed very detailed.

Watch the following video, then, you know what I mean.  I didn’t know Minecraft can build so many things.  And I don’t think it is easy.

Every Friday, if the girls can make it, they will spent 2-3 hours playing Minecraft building things.

They build a lot of fun things, and I am very sure when they building it, it has all sort of laughters and fun.

Let’s breakdown the video.

Skyscraper

Out in the wood they build a skyscraper.  It is a tall building.

It looks tall.  And it is a REAL building.  Your minecraft characters can actually go inside this “mega-structure”.

Reception Area

Well, every tall building must have a reception area.  So, when, they design this, the ground floor is the reception area with desk for people to sit down.

Garden Area

And yeap, don’t forget the Gardening Area too.  Where you got plants and trees to signify Qi (气).

Spiral Staircase

OK, their skyscraper does not necessary comes with high-tech equipment.

So, they decided not to build a Lift.  How on earth you run electricity into Minecraft and make any lift work?  That’s too high-tech.  hahaha

Instead, Jay build a spiral staircase so that the Minecraft character can go up to different level.

And building different level is “HARD”.  Because how you build a hanging floor?   Well, if you know how 3D printer works, that is precisely they have to do when they build each floor.  Build and remove.  hahaha

Office Area

This level is their office level.  Every one has one huge office, and they gets to design and decorate their office.  COOL!

This is Ash’s office.  A simple chair inside.  With some plants.

I also saw Jay’s room, lots of colorful plants inside.

Look at Collette’s room, got flowers even got bookshelves.

Pantry Area

This is a pantry area.  May be they are still Primary School students.  So, their pantry area is so similar to the school’s recess canteen area.

Amour Room

Minecraft is about fighting creatures too.  So, from time to time, you build or you found some cool amour, you want a place to keep it.  So, they build this Amour room to keep those.

Every kids have their own Amour room.  They get to decorate it.

Jay’s lost all his Amour.  So, his room is empty.  But that’s Jay.  Bo-Chap one.. hahaha

Toilet

What?  They also build a couple of toilet at the Toilet level.

Every kids has their own toilet.

And this is Ash’s Toilet bowl.

And hey, Kay Kay is pooing.

Hahahahahaha.  So, I am guessing, they will say, let’s go to the toilet together.  Wahahahaha  Please lock door next time!

Cinema Area

Wow!  They have their own entertainment.  They have a Cinema inside the Skyscraper.

And check out those couple seats.  wow…

Unfinished Level

There are a few empty levels.  One of it apparently is my office.

Yeah, they reserved a whole floor for my office area.

Roof Top

This is the roof top area.

And Kay put his Monster truck hanging there.

How creative is that.

The kids nowadays are different.

In their era, there are wonderful things such as iPhone/iPad and Smart Phone Smart tablet, etc.

Kids are exposed to technologies at very early age.

You cannot stop them to become a “Game Addict”.

But you can guide them to become equally good in their studies and gaming.

First rule is gaming has to come after their studies.

Kids have to learned self-disciplin so to know how to study their ownselves.

Only after they show those discipline then they are allowed to play games.

Let them play games with a purpose.  Such as this one, group a few friends together, every Friday night, hang out and build things together.

Think of “Friends” think of “The Big Bang Theory”.

Of course, make the play date fun.  With a purpose.

Here, Jay is teaching Ash how to “program” a drone.  i.e. NOT fly the drone using remote control.  Instead, how to write programs to make the drone fly or flip or do anything you like.  Safer…

Children can learn very fast and learn a lot of things at this age.  Expose them with these technologies, but introduction is very important.

I like to teach my kids to learn how to teach other people.

By doing so, you can learn more.

Learning how to play it yourself is not so fun.

Learn how to teach other people so that every one gets to play is the main purpose.

Even the cat will enjoy it.
