Renovating a new home is not a fun job ya.
In addition to the civil work in the renovation, the data network has to be done correctly too. I had learned my lesson for my previous two homes. So, this time, don’t play play, do it right.
You can ask the contractor to do for you. But you can’t control what the contractor uses. They probably uses lower grade RJ45 head lor. And they probably do it very long, and have to force the cable tangling here and there. Which is bad for the cable.
Although the cable cap has “Cat 6” words on that, but it mean nothing lor.
When I plug these cable head inside the Cisco Switch I can’t hear the click sound. Means it is not so fit into the RJ45 port. Means low quality lor.
You can buy from Sim Lim, but the chances of getting a 20cm Cat5E cable is slim.
You can custom made them, the price tag will be high.
So, what do you do?
Clamp your own cable lor.
Just have to remember the color coding. And straighten the cable.
Make sure the cable is pushed in.
Then clamp it.
Since I need 20cm cable, so, leave 21cm so that the extra can be clamped.
Run the cable thru the tester. Make sure it is ok.
This is OK.
I did a timelapse on this. Show you the whole process of making one cable. You get the idea.
Made all these cables (2 made by my colleague).
Really wasted some.
Let’s replace the before. This is now. All natural curve with better cable heads.
Put some Velcro on it. hahaha
Now I am satisfy.
The cable cap I am using. From my company cupboard.
I am using Cat5 cables.
The color code.
Let’s see another example. Before… ugly long black cable.
After – Nice and short cable. You can decide the length.
