Date:  May 18, 2019

SST don’t provide cooking course.  So, bo-pian, daddy has to teach Jay to cook.  Hahaha

Today we celebrate my mom’s 81th birthday.  So, let’s ask her grandson to cook a dish for her.

NTUC started to sell “Free Range” Pork Spare Rib Prime.  Never taste it before, let’s try.  We also bought some small ribs from wet market too.

The little small spare ribs from Bukit Gombak wet market is pretty.

Was the ribs with salt.

Also, give the ribs some good massage.  Tell the ribs I am going to eat you.  So, please be tender.  hahaha

A lot of parents give “small knife” to their kid, and scare then are injured.

“Don’t la”.  Let them handle the big knife, the bigger the better.

Cut some green onions.

Let’s see how Jay handle the big knife.  Cut the ginger as thin as you can.

OK, you know the drill.

  • Heat the wok.
  • Fried the onions, green onions, ginger and 八角.
  • Add in the spare ribs and small ribs.
  • Stir fry.  And ouch ouch ouch.
  • Add in soya sauce.
  • Up to you to put how much.
  • Now, stir fry the pork ribs.
  • And add in the SECRET INGREDIENT.
  • Put whole can la.  Don’t waste.

Yeap.  The secret Ingredient.  To make the ribs soft and tender??  Not sure?

You see people use Chinese cooking wine to cook dish ya?  So, use Sapporo beer which is also alcohol to cook should be ok la.

Let’s try.

Wah, Grandma also come and supervise ah?  Hahahaha.

The smell attracted my mom to come into the kitchen.

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_a8ea6.jpg

Don’t forget to put some 5-Spice Powder.

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_a8ead.jpg

Also, to add the sweetness, rock sugar.

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_a8ea5.jpg

No more normal rock sugar, use the Honey one, ok.

Let’s leave it cooked by SMALL FIRE.  For at least 40-60minutes.  The more time the more tender the meat.

One hour later.

The best thing is the thin slice of Boon Tong (or Bentong) ginger.
