Mommy has a booth at the Arts & Gardening tents.

The easiest way to get there, is to park your car at block 338 of Ang Mo Kio Ave 1 (the market just opposite the Park car park entrance.  Then, you walk towards the left, pass the dog-run area).

Let’s do quick summary again.

  1.  It is a method that you can grow vegetables using fish.
  2. You will have a tank of fish.  Fish will eat and poo poo.  Poo poo contains ammonia.
  3. Fish don’t like ammonia as it contains nitrogen.
  4. So, the beneficial bacteria in the Aquaponics systems, converts these poo poo (ammonia) into nitrates and nitrites.
  5. Vegetables and plants loves to eat/absorb nitrates and nitrites. Hence, using the pump, and circulation water, it absorbs and removes the nitrates, and hence, remove the nitrogen.
  6. Water without nitrogen flow back to the fish tank.  It is clean water to fish, and fish loves it.  You feed the fish, they eat they poo poo, and here goes again.
  7. Vegetables grow this way are very natural, and organic.
  8. You added the grow LED lights so that they can have 8-10 hours of lights to do photosynthesis.  Hence it grows faster.
  9. Oh ya, all the water are circulated, compare to traditional growing.  This one it is similar to hydroponics.  It actually reduced the water usage up to 90%

Hahaha.. not too bad.  Finally come up with this board to explain what is Aquaponics.

So, you can buy a systems today to put it at the balcony or the living room.  You can start growing the vegetables yourself.

For me, I strongly suggest to grow things like Kale, and Red Leaf Cabbage, as well as herbs. Kale is super food.  And it is expensive.

Search on the Google, you will get a lot of health benefits of Kale.  It is one of the top veggies that contains lots of antioxidant.

Indeed it is the most wealthiest vegetable on the planet.  But you need to grow it yourself, to ensure 100% it is organic.

A lot of people confuse Aquaponics with Hydroponics.  Hydroponics grow plants using water, but they added vitamins, nutrients in the water, hence “chemical”.  So, some says theirs nutrients does not contain chemical, all natural, but it will be expensive.

A lot of people stopped by the booth and asked a lot of questions.  Good!
