Date:  Jul 10, 2016

This is our Aquaponics systems at our home balcony.  We grew green vegetables in the top 4 shelves.  And the bottom shelf is to raise fish.

Aquaponics is a great way to grow both fish and green vegetables in a close eco-systems.  We have been improving our home systems to produce more veggies.

We already know it produce very tasty veggies.

Usually these are the fish you grew for Aquaponics systems.  For us, we put in gold fish and Tilapia.

Two months ago, we bought these Tilapia.  Very small.  🙂

A month later, they grew bigger.  Because the aquaponics really gave them a good home to stay, so the fish are happy and they stay healthy.

The fish is now 2 months old in our Aquaponics tank, and thew grew even bigger.

Usually these fish are tough and should be able to live under extreme circumstances.

However, one Tilapia died today, because my wife is transferring some water out to another tank and filled in a bit too much “new water” into the systems without checking the PH value.  So, one fished just died 20 minutes ago.

RIP to one Tilapia.  It is still considered small.  About 85% of a small plate size.

So, let’s review the concept of Aquaponics.

What is Aquaponics?  Aquaponics is to grow BOTH fish and green veggies in a systems so that you can EAT them.  YES!  You can actually eat the fish.

Let’s place it (the dead Tilapia) on the pan and fried it.

A few minutes later… golden crispy Tilapia is in the plate again.

Let’s taste it!

We finally have tasted the first ever fish from the Aquaponics systems.

It taste very nice, sweet and meaty.

There is “no soil taste” at all.  Unlike those locally grown fish.

It taste much better than those Nasi Lemak fish (comparing the size).

If you wish to have a Aquaponics systems, you have to be aware that you grew the fish to eat later, just like the green vegetables.  So, please do note treat it like a Pet fish.  🙂

You suppose to eat the fish ya!
