Yesterday was the Badge Ceremony night for Jay at SST. This marks a new journey for Jay, an exciting new world waiting for him to explore.
Indeed, “here’s where our future starts”.
Is He Ready For Secondary School?
The parents were gathered in their class room. We have free dinner box and drinks from the school. We sit in the class and listen to what our kids have to say about their 2 days 1 night camp, their orientation week.
Jay stand up tall and speaks about his fun time in one of the game. OK, seeing him, standing up there, has no fear talking to the parents whom he never met before, and best of all, he speaks his mind, need not to refer to any notes. I think he has slowly and truly master the art of public speaking. Hahahaha
All students have to write on to a small little card to their peer support leaders (older students who plans the orientation week). They have to let the PSL knows what they think about the secondary school, what they wish to achieve. PSL then will reply them in the same card and this is where he received the card back.
PSL also commented on his good initiative of being one of the student walk around all the classes to collect the empty dinner box and garbage from the parents. I later asked him what makes him do so? He simply says “I see there is no garbage bin in all the class, and parents are holding the empty box in their hand, so, I go to each of them and collect from them, and throw it to the designated bin outside the class room.”
Although this is a small gesture, but it tells you a lot about a kid. PSL also make a special thanks to him while he received his card. Here is the nice video of this. Well done Jay!
And of course, his trademark big smile on his face. That will make him sail a very long way.
For the past 2 weeks (Orientation Week), Jay has given 100% trusts, and support from me and my wife. He has shown tremendous new characters towards his blending into the secondary school. I am very very proud to say that he falls into category “D” for levels of social & personal development.
So, I am very proud to say that he is ready to go into Secondary school.
I think Jay is also technologically ready liao. He spent the last few days working on compiling this video presentation.
School Song
SST has come to the 10th year of its inception.
The school song lyrics was created and written by their own students some 9-10 years ago. Of course, music composed by professional.
One of the main task the PSL need to do is to train their younger school mates the school song. Not easy, because it is very long and very english. hahahahaha
But I like the “Daughters and sons of SST, SST” chorus.
Cheering
Normally, you see how a group of people cheers for their class, you will know how close they come together. These group of students only met a week ago, and they have spent much fun together. I think they are ready to be together for the next 2 years at least in the same class.
Badge Ceremony
It is a tradition for the new kids in the block to received the school badge from the principal. Today 207 such students will receive this.
Received the badge from the principal.
A proud moment, and a moment to signify grow up.
All the best to my son, Jay for his new journey in secondary school.
After a tiring day. He is still as playful as the same old Jay. I have given him almost 12 years of unlimited happy childhood. And I am glad to see he is ready to take charge of his secondary school life with the same playful manner.
