You all by now should know the basis of aquaponics. 1) totally organic, 2) save 90% of the water, 3) do not use chemical nutrients as in hydroponics, 3) fish poo gives nitrates to veggies, and veggies cleanse the water for the fish.
And my “urban farmer” wife was experimenting this.
An outdoor Aquaponic systems with some bamboo sticks and net.
The solar panel is for the pump to work all day without drawing power from the electrical outlet.
And guess what she is growing here?

Bitter gourd or bitter melon.
It takes 2 months to grow from seeds to a plant.
The flower came out during end of December.
And it become the bitter gourd for just 20 days.

The bitter gourd fruit is so healthy looking.

口痒. My wife bring back one mini bitter gourd to taste. Very healthy looking and 100% organic.

Let’s eat it.
You might ask how to eat it?
First, you soak the whole fruit in icy water. Then, you slice it. And then you eat it raw with honey.
Look, so cute, after cutting a few slice it has a face.

The fruits is so healthy that even the seeds inside is big and ready to be planted.

And how my wife cut it? She carefully cut (but not cut the whole thing into inside) from the outside and peel it off. So that she can preserve the seeds.

First I taste it without the honey. So, it is very crispy, and the “green” fruits part is bitter, real bitter. But the inner layer has a bit of sweet taste. So, it makes the whole slice I ate nice in my mouth.
Of course, it taste nice when you taste it with raw honey. 🙂

These are the benefits of bitter gourd.

It taste great when it is served like this.

100% organic. Grow using Aquaponics method. And it taste good! Next thing is to see how to grow this “indoor” and mass produce it.
