I think news paper reading is important for kids.
This is the source of information you get to know what happen in this contemporary world.
At my home, I have both the English and Chinese news paper.
Will your son touch these paper.
Yes, it appears that they will flip the papers.
“Flip” does not mean read carefully. hahahaha If you want them to go thru everything, then, good luck and Dang Gu Gu. ahahaha
But they have a mobile phone. So, what can you do about it? So that they can at least read 3-5 news per day?
Today, I am going to start a new strategy and I believe it will work.
First, you got to have an App to scan news paper, magazine of photos. I used Turbo Scanner.
Next, you are going to go thru the news papers.
Find those you want your son or daughter to read. And scan it.
The good thing about these PDF scanner app, i) you can cut out a frame, and remove those unnecessary content. ii) you can save it as PDF file so that it is easy to share, and annotate.
My son love to read Space news. So, here is an article about China making this gigantic Space Telescope. So, you scan the photo.
You scan the news about this space telescope.
Best of all, you scan the Info-graph in Chinese. Like that they get to expose to read Chinese too. Simple one.
Don’t worry about whether they can see it or not. They can zoom in. hahaha
like that there is no excuse.
For example, some changes in road around Changi while they build the Terminal 5.
The news about it. And you sent them to their Whatsapp or Messages. So that they can received it. And while in the bus to school they got time to read, then, they might be able to discuss the news with the friends. It also make you, the parent to know what the topic they like.
I recommend make it a daily event.
And every day, only sent not more than 3-5 pages of news for them to get started.
When they get home, discuss with them about the news.
Ask them or encourage them to share it with friends thru Whatsapp. And make it a discussion topic.
And hopefully, after 1 month and 2 months later, you will see some difference and changes. When they get used to the newspaper format, they might tend to read the news paper themselves. And scan it themselves.
As they want to find topic to share with their friends. Talk to their friends.
So instead of …
“Hi”
“Hi”
“eating dinner”
“nothing to do, boring.”
You get …
“Hey, Lee Chong Wei won the Japan Badminton”
“Is it? Whats the score?”
“Here you are… the news…”
One more thing… after you scanned it, before you go to bed, you can read the news to them too.. while the lights is off, because it is on your iPad.

For me, I used another scanner for it. Because to make it like a collection. hahahaha
This is called make use of technology.
