We are driving from Kawayu Onsen towards Kushiro on our last day in Hokkaido.
We saw a small signboard “Cafe Pomme de terre”. So, we decided to turn into this small exit, and after driving about few hundred meters we came to this place.

Cafe Pomme de terre.
It is stand out from no where. Deep inside the forest. There was this beautiful house. The 2nd floor is used as a Cafe.

This is the name card and the direction to go to this place. Later when we returned the car to Nippon-Rent-A-Car at Kushiro Airport, we found their name cards available there too.

It is a very nice and cozy place. The ground floor is used as their residence. And the 2nd floor is used as the cafe and restaurant.

The decor of the restaurant is very warm and nice.

Looking out to the window is the Kushiro Marsh land. And sometimes, you can see dear and some times you can see the Japanese cranes.

It is a nice place to take a 30-60 minutes rest for a quick meal and nice coffee before you continue your driving.

The food is not too bad at all. Western Japanese fusion style with most ingredients harvested from the Marsh in front.

The Japanese pan cakes is delicious.

I love my blueberry shake.

Jay Jay loves the food!

From time to time there will locals come in to the Cafe and enjoy their afternoon tea with these cookies and cake.

The owner can speak very good Mandarin, as she studied in China. Her husband I think is from Hong Kong, and they have moved from Shikoku to Kushiro three years ago.

This Marshland Cafe together with the land costs about 40,000,000 yen to buy and build. Wow, that is roughly less than SGD$600K.

There is a small house just about 200 meter away from Cafe Pomme de terre, it is up for renting. The rest is about SGD$2K per month. hahaha (dreaming mode now…)

Next time, when you are renting a car in Hokkaido and driving around Kushiro, don’t forget to check out this nice warm little cafe deep inside the Marshland of Kushiro. Have a chat with the owner (in either Japanese or Mandarin), and relax.
