After using it for one whole month, I have no complaint about it.
It supports 4K HDR.
But I think my eyes are not that super good, so, I actually, I cannot differentiate between 1080p and 4K. 🙂
Netflix contents already updated with 4K contents.
I watched the whole Star Trek Beyond in 4K again. And I think it is quite similar to HD quality. May be is my eyes.
The size is about the same as the previous Apple TV 4th Gen.
They removed the USB-C port. Not sure why. But the Apple TV 4th Gen USB-C is useless anyway… It is for maintenance purpose. But Apple did not provide any details what does it do.
Same thing, they don’t have the optical audio port too.
The remote has a white ring on the MENU button. And a TV button. That is diff.
Setting it up is easy now.
By just bringing your iPhone closer to the Apple TV. (thru NFC).
If you have multiple Apple TV, this is definitely a good feature.
So, what is the difference between this Apple TV 4K vs. Apple TV 4th Gen?
Video is 2180p should be better than 1080p. But in the market, almost 99.9% of the contents are 1080p max.
The Processor is A10X Fusion. This is big deal. And the Network port is now GE port. Also big deal. And the Bluetooth 5.0 is of course better than 4.0.
The HDMI is 2.0a standard.
A10 Fusion chip is 50% faster than A9 chip and A9 chip is 3x times faster than A8. So, it is powerful.
Now, why is A10 Fusion chip is a big deal?
At home, I have Synology NAS contains all my 1080p HD contents. And I used two programs to stream videos. 1) Air Video HD, 2) Plex.
Air Video can be accessed from any where from my iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, etc. So, you simply add the directory you want to open up and you can even watch it on the road.
Plex can fetch metadata from the Internet so, it gives photos, descriptions to your movie and TV contents.
When you click on every movie, they will give you the descriptions, the actors actresses info.
Previously with the Apple TV 4th Gen which runs A8 chip. I can’t set this to Maximum.
The maximum I can set is to 8Mbps. Using the same WiFi (Eero).
And when I play it on Plex, the screen did get buffer a few times on my Apple TV 4th Gen.
But now with Apple TV 4K, I can play very smoothly at Maximum speed.
So, that is the biggest different.
Also, the loading of App is much more faster now.
This is the main set top box I used in my living room now.
