Kay’s New Islabike – Beinn 20

Date:  June 18, 2017

Nov 5, 2013 – When Kay is 4 years old, he knows how to ride a 2-wheels bike, a bike called Islabike from UK/US.  The bike is a 14″ wheel bike and weight only 5.5KG.  I bought it from US via Borderlinx Concierge service and ship it directly to Singapore via Borderlinx.  http://miniliew.blogspot.sg/2013/11/jay-his-new-bike-55kg-nia-unboxing.html

May 24, 2015 – 1.5 years later, when Kay is 5.5 years old, Kay has grown up a bit, and we upgraded his Islabike to 16″ wheel bike.  The weight is about 5.9KG.  I asked a friend in US to buy for me, and my wife picked it up and bring back from US during one of her trip.  http://miniliew.blogspot.sg/2015/05/kay-his-new-bike-59kg-16-wheel-islabikes.html

Today, thanks to a French couple, who is leaving Singapore next month, I bought this 2nd-hand Islabkike – Beinn 20 from them.  They have a Beinn 20 and a CNOC 14.  They actually contacted me, know that my son was using the CNOC 16, so asked if I want to buy the bike.  Without even thinking, I say yes.  Thanks and my son Kay loves it.  The whole night, he was testing it, and trying to get used to the height of the bike.

The new bike has 20″ wheels.  It has the front and rear break.  It has a 7-speed gear.  And, it is 8KG in weight.  It is about 2.1KG more heavier than the old bike.  But Kay has grown from 18KG to 22KG since his old bike.  Sure can handle this one.

The wheel size difference by 4″.  So, it is a bigger bike for Kay.

The feet bearly reach the ground, which is good.

It comes with 7-speed gear to help kids to learn about the gear.

We picked it up from Pebble Bay, and Kay is eager to test drive it at the car park.  This is his first time riding Beinn 20.  4″ bigger wheel than his old CNOC 16, and need some time to get used to it.

And yeap, it can go into our car.

When we reached home, he just keep practicing how to ride this new bike downstairs.

With some practice, he already get a hang of it.

And next is to teach him how to use the gears.  His old CNOC 16 has no gear.  So, imagine he riding along with me, my wife and Jay Jay, all our bikes has gear, and got one time, we covered 25km of distance at Punggol.  This tough little guy on his CNOC 16 riding with pure leg strength.  Now, once he master the gears, he will be happy when go up hill and down hill.  hahaha

He can even ride fast and break fast now.  hahaha The new Beinn 20 has 2 breaks.  His old bike only has the rear break.

Time to say good bye to his old bike.  🙂

Now, we will go back to the days to ride more bicycle trip.  Hopefully we can do a bicycle vacation in future.

Here are some info about the new bike.  After he has again outgrown this bike, we will move him to normal Trek bikes.

  1. Hi miniLiew, just like to check if you are done with the CNOC 16″? Our girl has outgrown her CNOC 14″ and we are looking for the next bike to upgrade to already. Please do let me know if it is still available. Bernard @ 98802956

  3. Hi Miniliew, just wondering if Kay is due for a bike upgrade! My daughter is using the CNOC 16 for the past few years, and she’s ready for a slightly bigger bike. Thanks!
